Reopening nightclubs would help more towns level up than moving institutions out of London, Labour has said.
Shadow levelling up secretary Lisa Nandy said clubs and music venues played an important role in the culture, history and identity of a town or city. She said this was more important than talk of moving institutions out of London, as a poll shows that one in five northerners wanted a different place to become the UK’s capital city.
Nandy, who is MP for Wigan, added: “Live music venues that used to sustain bands like the Verve who come from Wigan, those things have disappeared.”
