Wandsworth recommends refusal of Wimbledon plans

The All England Lawn Tennis Club’s plans to build 39 new tennis courts next to its Wimbledon ground have been dealt a blow after planning officers recommended refusal.

Officers at Wandsworth London Borough Council, one of the councils affected by the plans, recommended that councillors vote to refuse planning for an 8,000-seat stadium show court and 38 grass courts on Grade II* listed Wimbledon Park.

The plans will come before the authority’s planning committee on Tuesday next week.
