The proposed development includes the demolition of the Barker & Stonehouse building, while Strawberry House will be retained.
Vita’s proposed scheme will be created using modern methods of construction, and will include social and study space, as well as a gym.
Max Bielby, chief operating officer at Vita Group, said: “Newcastle has a fantastic reputation as a great place to study, and this reputation continues to draw more students year-on-year, creating greater demand on the city’s infrastructure. This scheme could help to alleviate some of those pressures while adding to the city, creating a new thriving community.”
