UK store closures set to top 1,000 as use of CVAs mounts

The crisis on the high street is set to push the number of chain-store closures above 1,000 as more retailers turn to insolvency to avoid collapse.

Debenhams, Topshop owner Arcadia group, Paperchase and Monsoon are among those either planning or expected to to use company voluntary arrangements to overhaul their businesses, with the combined loss of more than 150 shops.

That adds to more than 900 store closures triggered at chains in the past two years according to the Local Data Company.
