The Bank of England and the US Federal Reserve will step up their fights against runaway inflation with bumper interest rate rises this week.
The American central bank is poised to post another increase of 75 basis points tomorrow (21 September), after data from August showed a troubling rise in core inflation.
On Thursday (22 September), the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee will meet, with economists divided over whether the increase will be 50 basis points or 75.
