U+I gets green light at Newtown Works
U+I and partner Quinn Estates have secured planning consent for the mixed-use scheme Newtown Works in Ashford, Kent.
The development comprises 300 homes, a 120-bedroom hotel, a multi-storey car park, film studios and a Grade II Victorian engine room.
The partners are in discussions with a number of private equity and institution-backed funds on the sale of the residential and commercial components.

Chief executive Matthew Weiner said: “Securing resolution to grant planning at Newtown Works is a key milestone, as significant planning delays had halted our progress in bringing forward this site, full of character and heritage.
“Importantly, when completed, the scheme will deliver much-needed homes, film studio space, offices, a hotel and parking to the Ashford community.”
Quinn Estates chief executive Mark Quinn added: “The demand for studio space has never been higher, and the coronavirus pandemic has not changed that.”
