Tom Tugendhat has pitched himself as the only Tory leadership hopeful committed to Boris Johnson’s levelling-up agenda.
The chairman of the foreign affairs select committee explicitly pledged to continue Johnson’s focus on investing in the North and Midlands should he win. He also promised to raise defence spending to 3% of GDP.
In an interview with The Times he suggested he would rebrand the policy as a “new deal for Britain” and concentrate on inequality around the country, regardless of geography.
