Donald Trump has agreed to testify to the inquiry into alleged fraud within his property empire.
The former president and his two eldest children, Ivanka and Donald Junior, have agreed to sit for questions as part of the three-year inquiry into the Trump Organisation by New York attorney general Letitia James. Trump has fought to dismiss the investigation, denouncing it as a “witch hunt”. He sued in federal court in a failed attempt to shut it down.
James claims to have uncovered “substantial” evidence that the Trump Organization misstated the values of its real estate assets, including skyscrapers, golf courses and hotels, over more than a decade to secure favourable loans and tax advantages. Investigators claim the organisation inflated the stated value of properties to obtain bank loans, but simultaneously undercut their valuation to reduce the company’s tax burden.
