TopHat appoints ex-JCB boss as chief financial officer
Modular builder TopHat has appointed David Brown as chief financial officer.
His appointment follows Paul Buddin’s exit in October 2022 after just over a year in the role. Paul Southworth was interim chief financial officer following Buddin’s departure.
Brown was CFO of construction equipment manufacturer JCB for six years, where he helped the business navigate the market downturns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. JCB Group’s profit before tax rose to £501m in 2021, up from £130m in 2020.

Prior to that, Brown held the role of senior audit manager at Deloitte for eight years.
His appointment follows TopHat’s recent £70m fund raise from investors including Persimmon, which will help fund the development and fit-out for its factory in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The factory, which is set to open next year, will cover 650,000 sq ft and increase production to 4,000 homes a year, up from 1,000.
Jordan Rosenhaus, chief executive and founder of TopHat, said: “As a senior leader from a major manufacturing business, David brings with him the type of experience that will help us continue to revolutionise housebuilding through the application of cutting-edge technology and lean manufacturing techniques.”
