The rebirth of London’s Royal Docks

WATCH: London’s Royal Docks were once a hive of activity centred around the shipping cargo industry but in 1981 they were closed to commercial shipping as technology and the creation of containerised cargo put them out of use.

Today they are being revitalised by several developers, including Ballymore, ABP and Lendlease with Starwood Capital, drawn to the area due to its undeveloped landbanks and the expanding rail network and airport.

The new developments have already attracted several occupiers including venture capital fund Pontaq, which is moving to ABP’s Royal Albert Dock, the London Film SXchool and the English National Ballet, which are moving to EcoWorld and Ballymore’s London City Island scheme.
