The Land Authority for Wales and Port Talbot Council have selected Tesco Stores to develop the 3.6ha (9 acre) Riverside Walk site in the town centre. The company plans to build a 3,985 sq m (42,900 sq ft) Tesco foodstore and other shop units, up to 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft) of additional retail units, a petrol filling station and 285 car parking spaces. The proposed development will link the main shopping street to the Civic Centre and the Aberafan Shopping Centre. Construction is expected to start within a year.
