Business leaders have called on the government to rapidly reinstate financial support as the threat from the omicron variant of Covid-19 rises.
The CBI, which represents 190,000 businesses employing nearly seven million people, said: “Ministers must provide support in lockstep with future restrictions.”
Meanwhile, the Night Time Industries Association said that advice from Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, to cut down on social interactions over Christmas, “took a sledgehammer” to what is usually the busiest time of the year for clubs, bars and casinos.
