The studio flat is staging a comeback as record rents across the country force tenants to look for smaller places to live.
The average monthly rent outside London rose by 3.2% between July and September to a record high of £1,162, according to Rightmove.
It said the number of people now looking at renting studios has risen by 71% on last year.
