Stockton-on-Tees gets largest MMC scheme in the North
Beyond Housing is to bring the largest modular housing scheme in the North to Stockton-on-Tees.
The housing association is investing £19.5m to provide 177 eco-friendly houses at Princeton Gardens, on the River Tees.
Canvas Homes will construct the housing, including the pre-cast foundations, off-site at its factory in Harrogate. The modular provider will use recycled steel piles from decommissioned North Sea oil piles.

There will 51 affordable rented homes, 34 shared ownership and 32 rent-to-buy.
Frances Barlow, development manager at Beyond Housing, said: “As they are largely constructed off site, we can minimise site disruption and reduce waste while keeping a focus on sustainability.”
James Mottram, chief executive at Canvas Homes, added: “This partnership creates an opportunity to deliver a true mix of tenure on sites, enabling the people of Stockton to live in a high-quality home through rent-to-buy, shared ownership or affordable rent.”
Modular housing providers are increasingly partnering with registered providers and build-to-rent investors to provide homes at scale in a short period of time. In 2018, Canvas Homes established a BTR REIT business venture, seeking to create a portfolio of rental homes in England, outside of London.
Mottram said the REIT would “create a portfolio of accessible high-quality family homes to rent across the UK, which will significantly increase affordability and consumer choice”.
