Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation has launched the search for a permanent chair.
It follows the passing of Lord Kerslake in July last year. He had led the board since January 2020.
Eamonn Boylan, chief executive of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, agreed to take on the role of interim chair after Bob Kerslake’s passing. He will continue to lead the board until the permanent chair will be appointed.
The incoming successor will be tasked with maintaining the momentum and making further progress around the transformation of Stockport town centre.
Over the past five years, the corporation – a joint venture between Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, Stockport Council and Homes England – has secured £600m in private investment. It has helped to deliver 1,200 new homes, a £140m transport Interchange with its two-acre park, 170,000 sq ft of grade-A office space at Stockport Exchange, and transformed Weir Mill into a £60m mixed-use neighbourhood.
Most recently, the corporation has doubled up on its ambitious regeneration plans, aiming to deliver 8,000 homes over the next 15 years on the 280-acre Town Centre East site.
Mark Hunter, leader of Stockport Council, said: “We’re setting our sights high. Bob Kerslake is a very big pair of shoes to fill. Lord Kerslake did a marvellous job at Stockport, and we are indebted to him for his care and stewardship.
“He is much missed and therefore we didn’t ever feel we should be rushed into appointing a successor simply for the sake of filling that position. We’ll be going through a thorough process, looking far and wide, and I’m confident that in the not-too-distant future we’ll have the right person to take on that role. I look forward to being able to announce results of that at the appropriate time.”
