Savills names UK science head amid expansion
Savills has appointed Tom Mellows to the newly created role of head of UK science as the agency sets out to win more work in the rapidly growing sector.
Mellows has been a director in the company’s South East office agency team since 2005. In his new role, he will build on the science-focused work of Matt Soules, director in the Cambridge building and project consultancy team.
Savills’ science division works with occupiers and landlords on the planning, disposal, acquisition and development of lab space.

Rupert Dando, an associate from the firm’s Cambridge office, will also join the UK science team, moving to its London head office on Margaret Street, W1.
The expansion follows a busy 2021, which saw the appointment of Steve Chatfield as science special adviser. Savills also strengthened its Oxford-Cambridge Arc capability by welcoming directors Robert Godfrey and Mark Taylor to the business.
Mellows said: “The market has seen major growth, transacting record volumes in 2021, with significantly more in the pipeline for the year ahead.”
Notable deals last year for the firm included a 75,357 sq ft prelet to Autolus Therapeutics in Stevenage on behalf of Reef and UBS; the £77m acquisition of Rolling Stock Yard in King’s Cross on behalf of Life Science REIT; and the 35,000 sq ft fit-out of DNAe’s new office and lab space at Scale Space White City.
