WM Morrison has reported its seventh consecutive quarter of rising sales and posted its first growth in profits since it began a turnaround programme more than two years ago.
The Bradford-based grocer said that its focus on reinvigorating its stores and improving its range of products meant like-for-like sales were up 3% in the six months to July 30. Turnover was up 4.8% at £8.42bn.
Pre-tax profit rose by nearly 40% at £200m and on an underlying basis profits were also up by 12.7% at £177m.
