The investment firm said it has more than €1bn in capital to deploy into its build-to-rent and purpose built student accommodation sectors, after evaluating the Irish real estate market “for several years”.
The new office is located at 12 Merrion Square, Dublin 2. Vaudin will lead Round Hill Capital’s expansion in Ireland, overseeing the group’s investment, development and operational strategy.
He has joined Round Hill after more than 12 years at WK Nowlan Real Estate Advisors, where he was a director and shareholder.
He has also previously worked for Thames Water Property, BAA Lynton and Pillar Property in the UK, as well as Treasury Holdings and Harcourt Developments in Ireland.
Michael Bickford, founder and CEO of Round Hill Capital, said: “Consistent with many European countries, the Irish student and residential housing markets suffer from structural supply/demand imbalances.
“Round Hill has a proven 15-year track record of investing into such markets, where we identify opportunities that will deliver sustainable housing, whilst creating long-term jobs. We look forward to building a substantial student and residential platform in Ireland in a responsible manner.”
Vaudin added: “We have ambitious plans and over €1bn of capital to deploy in Ireland and setting up a locally staffed office is a sign of our intention to invest for the long-term.”
The investor is funding a pipeline of more than 7,000 student accommodation beds across the UK, Ireland and continental Europe. It is targeting 20,000 of them in these markets by 2020.
Round Hill said it has bought, built and managed more than 110,000 residential and student housing bedrooms in recent years. It currently operates around 65,000 of these in eight European countries.
