Revised plans for 60 Aldgate approved
Rejigged plans for an office building at 60 Aldgate, EC3, by 4C Hotel Group and Transport for London, have been approved by the City of London Corporation’s planning committee.
The scheme, which is being sold to BC Partners and will sit atop the District and Circle Underground lines, will provide 299,495 sq ft of office space and 6,426 sq ft of retail in a slightly widened 12-storey building.
It will also replace the Still & Star public house with more than double its previous active frontage after it was designated an asset of community value by the City of London Corporation in December 2016 following an application from the Campaign for Real Ale.

The scheme received 24 votes in favour despite 42 objections, including one from the Victorian Society, over the demolition of the original Still & Star building.
The scheme is located on 4C Hotel Group’s 500,000 sq ft Minories Estate, EC3, where the company is transforming the existing 16 Minories into a Canopy by Hilton hotel and delivering a 15-storey residential building providing 87 homes. The entire scheme has a gross development value of £300m.
“This office development offers significant benefit to the local area by replacing inconsistent buildings with a high-quality sustainable and energy efficient office building in this incredibly well-connected City location,” Oliver Sells QC, deputy chairman of the planning and transportation committee at the City of London Corporation, said.
“The designs for 60 Aldgate High Street have been refined over a number of years and the scheme we have approved today strikes the delicate balance between celebrating the Aldgate area and providing much needed space for the City to grow.”
4C Hotels’ managing director, Al-Karim Nathoo, added: “This revised application will deliver a more comprehensive regeneration of the area, will protect key heritage assets and deliver a more attractive public realm.”
