Regal London buys £65m Hackney scheme
Developer Regal London is bringing forward its third major scheme in under a year with the acquisition of a £65m development in Hackney, E8.
Regal London has acquired the 58-bed mixed-use scheme at The Laundry Building on Walburton Road, close to London Fields (pictured).
The existing Laundry Building was built in the 1960s. In 2011, the industrial building was refurbished by Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien and local entepreneur and TV professional Raj Nayak. The pair turned it into a 23,712 sq ft workspace, restaurant and nightclub.

Aitch Group secured consent for the seven-storey scheme designed by pH+ architects in 2019, working with Nayak’s The Laundry Building (Property). The plans include 26,500 sq ft of commercial space, which was designed for re-occupation.
Regal London also recently acquired Dominvs’ Wembley site in a joint venture with ICG Real Estate, and it is pursuing its largest scheme to date at Orchard Wharf in the Docklands.
The Laundry Building will be Regal London’s seventh site in Hackney and follows the recently completed Shoreditch Exchange, nearby on Hackney Road. Work is due to commence in the third quarter of this year, with completion scheduled for Q1 2024.
Simon de Friend, joint founder of Regal London, said: “We will continue to acquire strategic sites across the city that support our mixed-use capabilities and capitalise on our expertise in regeneration projects, creating developments in the process that reflect the diversity, vibrance and history of London.”
