Redrow nabs Alton Estate regen

[caption id="attachment_843249" align="alignright" width="200"] Alton Estate, SW15[/caption] Redrow has been chosen as the preferred bidder for a £400m regeneration on the Alton Estate in Wandsworth, SW15. Prior to last night’s decision, Wandsworth Council had whittled the shortlist down to two, with Countryside the other bidder. The council started the search for a partner for the estate in March 2016. GVA was appointed to lead the search for a partner to replace 287 flats and houses over a 17-acre area with around 1,000 homes. The entire estate houses more than 7,000 people across numerous buildings. The estate on the corner of Richmond Park is a classic example of modernist-brutalist architecture, with 11-storey towers sitting alongside Grade II listed blocks inspired by Corbusier. The scale and ownership of the wider estate is diverse. Of the 1,883 homes that were under council ownership, 40% have now been sold through the Right to Buy scheme. The regeneration will also include shops and community facilities, including a leisure centre, community centre, park and library.
