Red Bank to get green light

Manchester City Council and Far East Consortium are set to receive planning approval for their outline application for the regeneration of the Red Bank neighbourhood, a part of the £4bn Victoria North housing scheme. The proposal includes up to 3,250 homes and more than 160,000 sq ft earmarked for commercial use, a health centre, primary school, residential amenities and community space. The joint venture has committed to providing 20% affordable housing across the development, subject to viability. Permission was granted for enabling works in 2021. The jv also received a £51.6m grant from the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund to help facilitate development. Alongside the outline planning application, FEC has lodged a full planning application for three plots on Dantzic Street, adjacent to its existing 634-home Victoria Riverside scheme (pictured below). The next phase of the development will see the construction of 1,550 homes across seven buildings. The one-, two- and three-bedroom flats and townhouses will be delivered on a build-to-rent, affordable rent and open-market sale basis. All buildings have been designed by Manchester-based architect Hawkins\Brown and Maccreanor Lavington, with energy efficiency measures in mind, including low-carbon and renewable technologies. Red Bank neighbourhood forms a part of the wider £4bn Victoria North housing scheme, which is set to deliver up to 15,000 new homes over the next 15 to 20 years.
