R&D hub on Cambridge Science Park set for approval

Planning officers have recommended the council grant approval for a new office and research and development facility at Cambridge Science Park. The decision will be made during a Cambridge City Council planning committee meeting on Wednesday next week after the planning application was lodged in March this year. Trinity College, Cambridge, has proposed to bring forward a 141,305 sq ft scheme, designed by Allies and Morrison, on a vacant 1.7-acre plot within the western edge of the science park. The five-storey building is designed to 60% lab and 40% office specification. The scheme aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent with a route to BREEAM Outstanding for lab/office areas shell and core. The 152-acre Cambridge Science Park is part of the North Cambridge Research and Development Cluster, which also comprises Cambridge Business Park, St John’s Innovation Park, and Cambridge North. Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council are jointly working on unlocking development sites for 8,000 homes and more than 2.9m sq ft of commercial space.
