The government and the Conservative Party originally paid for Boris Johnson’s flat refurb, and were only paid back after the news hit the papers.
The official report into the Number 11 flat affair shows that designer Lulu Lyttle had to repay her fee back to the Cabinet Office in March this year. The Cabinet Office then reimbursed the Conservative Party. Only then did the prime minister settle the bill himself.
This came after allegations in the press that the refurbishment had been paid for by party donors.
