Plans submitted for £1bn Northern Gateway site in Manchester
Russell LDP and Harworth Group have lodged plans for a £1bn development at Northern Gateway, Greater Manchester.
The move comes after Bury Council and Rochdale Council approved the development framework for the site late last year, covering infrastructure and design principles, as well as phasing and timescales.
The first phase of the Northern Gateway proposal would see the delivery of up to 6.5m sq ft of employment space, with a focus on the advanced manufacturing and industrial and logistics sector occupiers. The scheme also includes infrastructure and amenities, such as retail and leisure space, a hotel and landscaped green open spaces.

The site is located at the intersection of the M60, M62 and M66 within the Atom Valley Mayoral Development Zone.
If approved, reserved matters applications will follow, including proposals for the residential element at Northern Gateway.
Helen Hartley, associate director for planning at Russell LDP, said: “With sustainable design at its core, our masterplan will create a thriving environment of employment units, transport and active travel routes and large areas of parkland attracting local, national and international employers.”
Lynda Shillaw, chief executive at Harworth, added: “The plans will put the northern conurbation of Greater Manchester on the map as a destination for jobs and skills, driving opportunities for future generations and delivering inclusive growth.”
