Aroland Holdings has submitted plans for 1 Undershaft, EC3, set to be the tallest tower in the City.
The 73-storey tower, designed by Eric Parry, will rise 1,015 ft above sea level.
The plans include a new public square at the base of the tower and a public viewing gallery, education centre and restaurant at its summit.
The submission follows a public consultation on the plans held in December last year, which Parry said had resulted in a more spacious public square and better access for cyclists
The building will occupy the site of the Aviva Tower, and feature an elevated reception lobby over the public square similar to that of the neighbouring Leadenhall Building.
It will also include over 20,000 sq ft of shops in a basement-level gallery.
The net internal area of the tower will be almost 970,000 sq ft.
A decision on the application is expected by summer 2016.
Aroland is owned by Kuok Hong Khoon and Martua Sitorus.
