Museum of London’s Smithfield relocation gets the go-ahead

The Museum of London’s plans to relocate to a collection of historic buildings in West Smithfield, EC1, have been given the go-ahead by the City of London Corporation.

As part of the redevelopment, the historic elements of the buildings will be maintained to create spaces underground and above ground level that will showcase museum content, as well as live events and activities.

The project, which will see the museum move to Smithfield when Smithfield Market is relocated to Barking and Dagenham, aims to offer learning facilities for children and hopes to attract 2m visitors a year to the area.
