Two UK arena developments will go ahead as councils approve development plans for the Sage in Gateshead and Cardiff Arena. Both buildings are designed by HOK and are suitable for mixed entertainment and sports use.
Gateshead Council approved plans for the 12,500-seat Sage (pictured), a £260m waterfront leisure development which also includes hotels, bars, restaurants and retail. It is being developed by Ask Real Estate and Patrizia, and will be operated by ASM Global.
John Rhodes, director of sports and entertainment at HOK, said: “The Sage offers a flexible and responsive design solution for Gateshead that will allow the region to attract high-profile events and conferences while infusing the area, which already boasts rich cultural buildings and spaces, with another gathering space and entertainment destination.”
