Plans approved for £40m Backworth Ageing Well Village

Northumberland Estates, in collaboration with Age UK and NHS North East and North Cumbria, has been given the green light to proceed with the £40m Backworth Ageing Well Village.

The North Tyneside scheme, designed by P+HS Architects, is set to support older people living independently by bringing a range of health, care and housing services into a single location. In total, more than 201,000 sq ft of development will take place on the site, which lies close to both the A19 and A186.

The plan is to build 35 homes for owner-occupiers, with nine of those offered as affordable houses. The project also includes an apartment block accommodating 54 one, two and three-bedroom flats, with 52 of them offered with an extra care facility, managed by Age UK North-East.
