A survey of more than 300 councillors has found that two-thirds believe the housing crisis is getting worse, with six out of 10 saying their planning teams lack the resources to do an effective job.
The National Planning Barometer, carried out by SEC Newgate, showed a “crisis of resource” for local planning authorities.
It also revealed a disconnect between planning teams and council planning committees, with almost every councillor polled confirming they had voted against their planners’ advice at least once in the past year. Almost one-fifth said they had done so on six or more occasions.
