Planning restrictions could be eased for onshore wind farms

Ministers are considering relaxing planning restrictions on new onshore wind farms as gas prices continue to climb.

The government imposed an effective moratorium on new onshore wind farms in England in 2015 with draconian planning restrictions on further developments and cutting off government investment.

An announcement reversing the decision could be included in Boris Johnson’s statement on the future of UK energy supplies, which is expected next week. That will also include plans to increase the development of the UK’s nuclear power capacity and issue new licences to exploit North Sea oil and gas.
