Regeneration specialist Peel Waters has agreed terms with property investment company ICITIES to develop a brand-new ice arena at the location.
The three-acre scheme will be delivered on the former Soccer Dome site, next to the Chill Factore and iFLY.
The TraffordCity ice arena will be Planet Ice’s 15th and biggest venue in the UK. It will feature an ice rink, which can also be converted into a multi-use event space, and several food and drink offerings, including grab-and-go options, a family restaurant and a sports bar.
Nick Payne, director at ICITIES, said: “Across the UK, there is a general lack of first-rate facilities for many event space operators, such as virtual reality, e-sports and racquet sports, as well as screening and live entertainment. This project at TraffordCity, like many others we plan to develop, will address this need.”
Heath Rhodes, chief operating officer at Planet Ice, added: “The venue will be complementary to our existing facilities in the North West, in particular Altrincham, where we are often at capacity.
“We plan to provide a large seating capacity at the new venue for on- and off-ice entertainment. Furthermore, we plan to invest in our Altrincham site, so having this new facility close by will allow our customers full access to ice during any works we carry out at Oakfield Road.”
The estimated build time of the ice arena and event space is 12 to 15 months once the team starts on site.
