Place Capital buys design and regen practice
Place Capital Group has bought Modern City Architecture & Urbanism, a firm which specialises in mixed-use town centre and heritage-led regeneration, urban PRS schemes and family housing projects.
MCAU was founded by Dave Skidmore (pictured, second from left with MCAU team), who was formerly a board director at Broadway Malyan.
The move marks PCG’s third foray into the architecture and urban design sector this year, following the creation of the London-based design practice Grounded and acquisition of the Manchester-focused firm Loop Systems.

MCAU will merge with Loop, bringing staff numbers to 25 at its 3,200 sq ft office in Castlefield, Manchester. In addition, 15 London-based staff will work in an office close to Borough Market.
David Smith-Milne, co-founder of PCG, said: “They [MCAU] complement our existing teams and give us additional scale and projects, and we look forward to working with Dave and his team to grow the business.”
