Peel plans MediaCity expansion with new office tower
Peel Media has lodged plans for further expansion at MediaCity in Manchester, as it looks to build a new 350,000 sq ft office tower.
The move marks the first significant development milestone since Landsec acquired a 75% stake in the media, digital and tech hub in November last year.
If approved, the 11-storey building will sit opposite ITV and University of Salford media campus. Peel had previously set out to deliver a 117,000 sq ft office building on the site, but has revised the plans, almost tripling the potential space of the tower.

The revised plans also include 15,000 sq ft of leisure and independent retail space on the ground floor and a 283-capacity bike hub with changing facilities. There will also be 28,000 sq ft of public realm.
It will target a BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A rating, as well as being net zero carbon, using the UK Green Building Council framework and achieve Well Gold, with the aim of reaching Platinum status.
Landsec chief executive Mark Allan said: “Mixed-use developments such as this, with a clear sense of place, are becoming an increasingly important ingredient in the fabric of our cities.”
MediaCity managing director Stephen Wild added: “Its design, spec and feel will very much reflect the innovative and cutting-edge immersive industries we will be targeting as we move into the next phase of MediaCity’s evolution.”
Subject to approval, the scheme has set a start of summer 2023.
