Oxpens regen lined up for approval

A major regeneration scheme in west Oxford is on track to be approved next week following a local planning committee meeting. The 15-acre Oxpens scheme would transform the largest brownfield site in the city centre into a new mixed-use neighbourhood. The site is currently home to a car park, several buildings, old railway sidings and scrubland. Oxford City Council and Nuffield College own most of the land and are bringing the regeneration forward through a joint venture called Oxwed. The masterplan, lodged early in 2023, features 234 homes, 258 student rooms, 500,000 sq ft of labs or office space and a 250-bedroom hotel. The proposed residential element would deliver 50% affordable housing. The gross value added to Oxford’s economy from new employment at Oxpens is estimated at up to £280m per year.
