OpenAI picks Fora’s York House for first overseas HQ
OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, is close to a deal to establish its first overseas HQ in London’s King’s Cross.
The tech company is lining up a lease at flex office operator Fora’s York House at 221 Pentonville Road, N1, which EG understands could extend to multiple floors.
The move comes just over a year after the company said it had chosen London as the location for its first international office.

The move comes just over a year after the company said it had chosen London as the location for its first international office.
Though the company’s ChatGPT has made it a household name, Companies House records show the UK team’s headcount was roughly 20 people as of the end of last year. The company is, however, advertising for multiple roles in London.
The growth of the artificial intelligence business has been a boon for office leasing agents. A recent report from Savills said AI companies have been upsizing their space in central London at rates of up to 10 times their existing floorspace as they compete to hire the best talent.
Recent deals include text-to-speech and voice AI start-up ElevenLabs choosing flexible office provider Scope.Space’s Soho office for its HQ.
ElevenLabs is already one of the UK’s most valuable AI start-ups, achieving a valuation of £1bn earlier this year. The flex office on the fifth floor of 119 Wardour Street, W1, will house the company’s 20 UK-based employees.
