Across phase 1, the LLDC will deliver 85 private sale homes, 105 private rent homes and 112 affordable homes. Other uses include retail, leisure, employment and crèche/nursery facility. Quod advised on planning and Studio Egret West was the architect.
In a time of acute housing shortfall across the capital, new homes coming out of the ground across the Olympic Park has been frustratingly slow. However, the plan now approved, along with its tenure mix, should start to change that. Similarly to a recent Opal application in Canning Town on a site owned by the GLA, the tenure is split roughly equally between private rent, private sale and affordable.
LLDC and the then-mayor of London Boris Johnson announced plans in July 2013 to bring forward the completion date of both East Wick and Sweetwater to 2023, six years ahead of plan.
A consortium comprising Places for People and Balfour Beatty were picked in 2015 to develop the site, ahead of Grainger and a jv partnership between Argent and Mace.
Other residential phases across the Olympic site include Chobham Manor, which is currently under construction, as well as Sweetwater and Pudding Mill, which have yet to start.
Stratford Waterfront will consist of a mainly cultural and educational offer, which includes the likes of the V&A, UCL and Sadler’s Wells.
