EDITOR’S COMMENT Welcome to the new Estates Gazette website, part our biggest overhaul of the title since we were acquired by Mark Allen Group at the end of January. A fresh design to keep us looking our best at 166 years young.
We set ourselves a tight turnaround to revamp both the magazine and site considering all the other changes and challenges that come with the new ownership of the business. But, as with the fact that we didn’t skip a single issue of the magazine when the deal was done, I’ve learnt that when you have the right team, the most ambitious goals are achievable.
A huge shout out to group production editor Richard Hamshere and his team – particularly design studio manager Louise Wood – as well as Estates Gazette’s own legendary production editor, Anna Durkie, who worked long hours on the magazine redesign. And to head of development Andy Watt and his team for their work on the site. Both beautiful platforms for us to showcase the new branding courtesy of Valerie Henry-Baldock.

This week in the magazine and on the site our deep dives include Dominic Plaskota taking a look at office leasing in London’s Southbank, where agents are waiting to see which deal finally clinches a record triple-digit rent; Akanksha Soni catching up with Socius’s Barry Jessup and Landsec U+I’s Martyn Evans to discuss the changing ways in which developers must factor social impact into their projects; and my interview with Mark Bourgeois, chief executive of the Government Property Agency, about efforts to reshape the government’s office portfolio in London and across the country.
And then there’s the return of two Estates Gazette regulars that you might not have expected to see again – but both of which I’m very happy have returned.
The first is the Diary column, with some gossip, some jokes and, over the coming weeks, Q&As to (re)introduce you to the team.
The second needs no such introduction: Peter Bill will be back in Estates Gazette with a weekly column. This week the former Estates Gazette editor offers some insights into what’s happening inside the RICS. Peter, welcome back.
Read on, enjoy, and let me and the team know what you want to read more of. Between our redesigned magazine and this new website, there might be a new look, but the aim is the same – to be the trusted voice, with the sharpest insights.
