Office occupation at a third of pre-lockdown levels

Office occupation has not diminished following the government’s U-turn on working from home, sticking at around a third of pre-lockdown levels during September, according to proptech firm Metrikus. The number of employees working from offices rose from 15% to 33% during the first two weeks of September and on 28 and 29 September office occupation was at 32.5% and 34%, respectively. “This data suggests that a number of office-based companies and individuals have concluded that at least some portion of their work cannot be completed from home,” said Michael Grant, chief operations officer at Metrikus. Metrikus has sensors and software installed across large office buildings across the UK’s major cities on behalf of owners and occupiers and saw daily entries across the buildings it monitors reach an aggregated peak of more than 41,000 in the months before the lockdown.
