Ocado has expanded its operations at SEGRO’s Origin urban logistics development on the Park Royal Estate, NW10.
The online grocery giant has taken an additional 52,806 sq ft unit at the site, taking its total occupancy at Origin to over 121,000 sq ft.
It has also committed to a new 15-year deal at its initial 68,392 sq ft facility at the logistics park, which it leased in 2014.
The additional facility, rated BREEAM Excellent, will serve as an extension to Ocado’s existing site, enabling it to increase capacity for delivery of online orders to customers based in and around west London. SEGRO is also working with Ocado to add extra electric vehicle infrastructure on the site.
Alan Holland, managing director for Greater London at SEGRO, said: “The demand for online groceries continues to rise and we are pleased to be able to accommodate Ocado’s expansion at Origin.
“This is a great example of the strong and meaningful relationships we seek to build with our customers, and how we have been able to invest the time to understand Ocado’s requirements and offer them a creative solution at Origin.”
Ed Grover, property and network development manager at Ocado Retail, added: “Extending our site creates over 150 jobs for local people and allows us to serve a growing customer base in the London area.
“We’ve seen a huge demand for our services this year and we’re pleased to be able to expand our operations to serve over 10,000 more customers from Park Royal.”
Gerald Eve advised Ocado.
The deal builds on an existing relationship between the two companies, with Ocado, in partnership with M&S, establishing a 304,355 sq ft state-of-the-art customer fulfilment centre at SEGRO’s Purfleet logistics park near Dagenham.
The expansion at west London’s Origin takes Ocado’s total space within SEGRO’s portfolio to over 400,000 sq ft across three buildings.
Origin comprises six urban logistics and light industrial warehouse units, and counts brands including John Lewis among its tenant base.
