At Nuveen, Throssell most recently served as head of real estate for Europe, where he was responsible the regional investment strategy, managing €30bn (£25.6bn) of assets and a team of more that 200 people. Prior to that he was Nuveen’s chief financial officer, a post he also previously held at TIAA Henderson Real Estate.
Throssell said: “Having followed NREP’s growth and success with interest over recent years, I was struck by the business’s broader purpose which I now know permeates throughout its culture and is intrinsically linked to its financial performance – something that stands out as both rare and admirable within the industry. I am proud to join an organisation with strong integrity and deep-rooted values, and to have an opportunity to play a role in setting the direction for the next phase of its exciting evolution.”
NREP, the largest real estate investment manager in the Nordics with approximately €18bn of assets under management, has been expanding its London office despite having made no investments in the UK.
It currently manages more than 60m sq ft of real estate in Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Poland, and aims to manage multiple funds and products across more geographies.
Throssell’s appointment, the fifth new partner in six months, increases the NREP partnership to 19.
NREP chief operating officer Henrik Skak Bender said: “Colin’s arrival signals a bolstering of NREP’s financial function, which is essential as we become a bigger business with a broader product offering, while also strengthening our partnership which will benefit from his unrivalled expertise. This reflects our long-term strategy of launching into new markets where NREP can actively participate in enhancing the urban eco-system.”
