The future of the firm’s trading facility was in doubt since regeneration plans for land north of the River Trent, known as the Waterside, began to emerge.
In 2020, the city council included the site into the local plan as a potential redevelopment opportunity for offices, homes, an entertainment venue and a hotel.
However, after negotiation, a protected lease with improved terms has been agreed, securing the auctioneer’s headquarters.
Steve Holland, director of professional services at Innes England, which acted on behalf of the auctioneers, said: “Following a lengthy and challenging process of negotiation, we have now come to an agreement that will benefit Arthur Johnson & Sons for years to come.”
