North-South inequality gap to widen, despite levelling up

Income inequality has been predicted to widen between the richest and poorest regions of the UK to more than £34,000 per person by 2028.

The disparity in GDP per capita between London and the North East will rise in the coming years despite the government’s plans to “level up” poorer regions, said the Centre for Economics and Business Research.

It said the coming recession would hit the North and Midlands harder than the South of England.
