Nightingale Estate regen gets green light

Hackney Council’s plan for the 400 homes on the Nightingale Estate has been granted permission by the council’s planning committee. The homes will be built on the 4.9 acres of derelict land on the Clapton housing estate, completing the regeneration of the Nightingale Estate, which will have delivered 750 new homes when complete, alongside 400 refurbishments. The regeneration saw five council tower blocks demolished. Nick Parr, partner at Knight Frank, said: “The redevelopment of the Nightingale Estate will provide much-needed new homes for Hackney, as well as driving local regeneration and bringing wider benefits to the community.” The council’s Estate Regeneration Programme is one of the country’s largest and will build thousands of homes across the borough. More than half will be for council social rent and shared ownership, paid for by some homes for outright sale in the absence of government funding.
