The NHS in England needs nearly £10bn to repair its dilapidated buildings.
The cost of maintenance and building work has risen from £6.5bn two years ago to £9.2bn, half of which is needed to tackle deficiencies which pose either a “high” or “significant” risk to patients and staff.
Under a new settlement, the NHS will receive an additional £30bn in funding over three years, but analysis by the King’s Fund charity said that only 2% of this was for capital investment.
