More than half of borrowers will still have a mortgage at 65

More than half of new mortgages are being taken out by borrowers who will not pay them off before their 65th birthday.

Research published today by UK Finance said that 52% of new homeowner lending in 2021 was for terms that will end after the nominal age of retirement.

In 2014 the level was closer to a third of new lending.
