It proposes three residential towers, ground-floor commercial space and a new church for the Everlasting Arms Ministries.
The flats include 35% affordable provision by habitable room, with 25.8% social rented homes and 9.2% intermediate rented homes. The private homes are a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom flats for market sale.
If the plans are approved they will go to the mayor of London for the final rubber-stamping.
The Berger family is a property dynasty that made its name in London buying residential property that it pre-sold to institutions after the war. At their peak, the Bergers owned 100,000 flats around London.
At one time, the family company, Land & Property Trust, controlled assets valued at more than £500m.
The reemergence of the family comes as investment pours into the Old Kent Road with skyscrapers of up to 48 storeys replacing the old industrial sites and former retail parks.
Avanton is developing 1,152 homes at the Ruby Triangle site, and Galliard and Aviva has 1,300 homes at Cantium Retail Park. Most recently, the council approved DTZi’s 541-home scheme at Southernwood Retail Park.
