Mandarin Oriental checks in for new South Bank hotel

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has signed up to operate a new luxury hotel at Bankside Yards on London’s South Bank, SE1. The luxury hotel operator has signed a pre-development hotel management agreement with Sampson House to create a new 33-storey building with both hotel and branded residences. Located within the wider Bankside Yards masterplan, the site, which will be called Mandarin Oriental Bankside, will offer a 171-room hotel and 70 branded residences, subject to final non material planning amendments to meet operator requirements. Sampson House, which is owned by an international real estate consortium including Hotel Properties, Native Land and Amcorp Properties Berhad, gained planning permission for the building in 2020. Consent was obtained by developer Native Land on behalf of Sampson House. Bankside Yards is Native Land’s £2.5bn development, which is centred around the historic railway arches that run through the site and is set to be the UK’s first operationally fossil fuel-free major mixed-use development. Plans for the site, include a range of wellness and fitness options for residents and guests of the hotel, as well as a spa and a 25m lap pool. The residential units at Mandarin Oriental will provide residents access to the hotel’s facilities and service offering and are set to feature a sky lobby lounge, private roof garden and parking. Other amenities on site will include four restaurants which will be accessible to residents and visitors, events spaces, an outdoor terrace and activity space.
