Manchester Airport’s £1.3bn revamp ready for lift-off

The last phase of the £1.3bn redevelopment of Manchester Airport has been cleared for take-off.

The airport, co-owned by Manchester City Council and the surrounding boroughs, will announce today that it has committed a final £440m to the expansion of its state-of-the-art second terminal, which in due course will lead to the closure of its original and ageing Terminal 1, opened in 1962.

The expanded terminal should be open in 2025, completing 10 years of work at the airport.
