Manchester Airport has scaled back ambitions to more than double in size after the government’s decision to scrap the phase-two extension of HS2.
The airport had plans to become “a Heathrow of the North”, servicing 60m passengers a year, with HS2 connecting into its terminals.
It is now supporting efforts by the mayors of Manchester and Birmingham to revive plans for the HS2 line between the cities, backed by private money.
